Doha: The iconic Naismith Trophy will be showcased in a public space in Doha for the first time, marking a major milestone as Qatar prepares to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027. The prestigious trophy will be the centerpiece of the Match for Hope Fan Festival, scheduled to run from 24 to 31 January 2026 at Place Vendome Mall in Lusail (Gate 1 Eiffel, 2nd floor).
Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Executive Director of Sport at the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 LOC, emphasized the role of basketball in promoting education and invited fans across Qatar to join the celebrations.
Basketball fans will have a rare opportunity to see the most coveted prize in the sport up close, pose for photos, and celebrate the global game. The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Local Organizing Committee, the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), Qatar’s International Media Office, and Education Above All Foundation.
Spanning eight consecutive days, the Match for Hope Fan Festival will offer a wide range of basketball-themed activities. Fans can test their skills on an official FIBA World Cup 3×3 court under the guidance of Qatar National Team coaches, take part in shooting competitions, and win prizes, including tickets to upcoming Qatar National Team games in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers Window 2.
A key highlight will be the 3×3 All-Star Game on 28 January 2026, featuring players from the Qatar and Lebanon national teams alongside renowned content creators visiting Doha. The basketball activation will tip off on 24 January with Mini World Cup matches played by school teams, while the Qatar National Women’s Team will also meet fans on the opening day.
Match for Hope is an annual charity football event that brings together sports legends and global influencers to support access to quality education. Since 2024, the initiative has raised over USD 19.5 million, positively impacting thousands of children across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The 2026 match will take place on 30 January at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
